Inspired by roguelike games

Patch Quest is a premium adventure game developed by Curve Games. This game takes place in a seemingly two-dimensional world but has many characteristics associated with roguelike games. You will become an adventurer exploring the newly discovered Patchlands, so your goal is to explore the area and find as many treasures as you can.

In Patch Quest, you are joined by a goofy-voiced robot sidekick who usually gives helpful hints as the game progresses. Moreover, the adventurer has come prepared and will not be intimidated by the vicious monsters that inhabit the patchland.

A game where you can tame monsters

In Patch Quest, most of the mechanics are easily understood. You can walk around and use your monster-taming Lasso to subdue hostile monsters. It allows you to tame every monster’s enemy and claim their skills as your own. Enemies use four skills in combat against you. One is their evasive skill, a combination of two offensive moves, and their ultimate move—is a super-powerful version of one or more other attacks.

The game includes more than 50 different monster species that have a unique set of skills. Some of them can swim, fly or jump over dangerous ground. Further, mounted companions can be leveled up, and their levels will carry over to all other mount species. To improve your chances of finding and capturing a particular animal, consider upgrading to other species, not just your favorite one.

You can collect fruits to change the behavior of your weapon—similar to how power-ups work in Contra. The game has a simplistic control scheme, but it manages to be diverse and complex without being overwhelming. Some of the roguelike elements of this game are entertaining and engaging, but it lacks variety. One of the most common staples in roguelikes is itemization, which, unfortunately, isn't found in this game.

Combining adventure and roguelike elements

If you love adventure games and you're a fan of roguelike games, then Patch Quest is for you. It's not a highly complex roguelike, but it manages to do some exciting things with the idea of a two-dimensional world with multiple terrains. The nostalgic pixel art graphics are charming, and its simple controls make it easy to pick up and play almost anyone.

    • The art style is both charming and clean
    • Easy-to-understand controls
    • Great concept in taming new creatures and unlocking their skills
  • Cons

    • Every run feels the same since there is no itemization

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.
